Types of Radiant Floor Heating

Unlike the traditional heating units, a radiant heating system does not use air-filters or ducts to function. This system is installed under the floors and heats the interior bottom-up. There are two types of radiant heating, electric radiant floors, and hot water (hydronic) radiant floors.

For the hot water system, tubes are placed under the floors and hot water circulates through those tubes, this warms up the floor, in turn warming up the whole space as well. Whereas, for electric heating, thin heating cables are installed under surface floorings. Both of these systems are similarly efficient in heating your home comfortably.

Benefits of Radiant Floor Heating

  • Energy-efficient: Radiant heating only needs to run at a temperature of 29 degrees Celsius or less to warm up the floor (depending on the floor finish), to warm the room.
  • Safe to use: As the system works beneath the floors, you will not have to worry about sharp edges or hot surfaces. This is especially important with households with children and pets.
  • Comfort: Heating systems like a furnace will use air ducts and filters to function. Dirt, grime, or mold can often build-up on these components which deteriorates the air quality if not cleaned regularly.
